What is a domain?

A domain is simply your address on the internet. For example, www.MozunkHost.com is the domain you are currently viewing. If you owned a business named Frank's Flowers and Furs, you might want a domain like www.FranksFlowersandFurs.com. However, do you really want to make your customers type that in EVERY time they visit your website? It doesn't matter if you do or not -- they won't. We're just that lazy now. 

How do I choose a domain?

It's not as simple as it seems. There are a few "guidelines" for choosing a domain that you might want to follow:
- Keep it short. Let's try to keep your domain under ten characters. And don't forget that the only characters allowed in a domain are A-Z, 0-9, and the hyphen (-). Anything else, including spaces, will not work.
- Keep it relevant. First, try your topic or company name. My favorite domain, even though it violates guideline one, is 1800flowers.com. It's simple, easy to remember, and very functional. If you have an established business with a catchy number like 1800Flowers or 1800PetMeds, try using that. If you're not so lucky, carry a notepad with your for a week or so and keep a running list of ideal domain names. When you have a list of 20 or 30 possibilities (yeah, you'll probably need that many), use the form below to see if that domain is available. If it is, you're ready to register with us and get your website going!
- This may seem obvious but several people have made this mistake before. Since domains aren't CaSeSeNsItIvE, check to see if your domain has another meaning. The textbook example of this is WhoRepresents.com, a website that tells you what lawyer represents your favorite celebrity. However, this domain can easily be read as WhorePresents.com if you remove the capitalization. Be careful.
- Choose something easy to remember and spell.
